I was too old when he first became famous. Like Ustadh Ammar, one of the younger teachers at AlMaghrib Institute. We know why sisters like him. Lol. But I am proud of our brother, Saad Tasleem. Sh. Saad, a graduate from shariah program in Madinah University, has published a book in English on 'The Devil.' He has made the bold claim that, english or arabic, this book is the most comprehensive book on the Devil or Shaytaan. You know what that means...God knows best.

Have you ever read the same sentence three times...
...only to realize your eyes were moving, but your mind was somewhere else?
I wonder how often we do that outside of books.
How often we listen without hearing.
How often we look without seeing.
How often we rush through ordinary moments, only to realize later that they were quietly becoming memories.
Perhaps reading teaches us more than words.
Perhaps it teaches us to be present.
To slow down enough for a sentence to settle.
For a conversation to matter.
For a sunrise to be noticed.
For a heart to be heard.
Maybe the greatest readers are not the ones who finish the most books.
Maybe they are the ones who learn not to hurry through life.

I made the comment below on a post mocking the concept of unpaid labour. For anyone interested in reading a critique of national accounting, I recommend the book "If Women Counted" by Marilyn Waring.

When most women speak about unpaid labour, it is not with the goal of being transactional but to draw attention to the fact that the domestic tasks that we typically take on also have economic value (some estimates place this at over 40% of GDP if paid at minimum wage). We live in a capitalist economic system that only measures market transactions so this unpaid domestic labour is not valued and some see the paycheck as the only financial contribution to a household. In a healthy marriage both spouses would recognise and value one another's labour, both paid and unpaid.
