Hope you’re all doing well by the grace of Allah.

After reading so many posts here, I had a genuine question on my mind: When it comes to marriage, people often say they want someone emotionally mature, understanding, kind, peaceful, sincere, and compatible.

But my question is: how do we even get to know whether someone has those qualities if we don’t give them a chance to speak in the first place?

On matrimonial platforms especially, it often feels like the first filter is beauty for women and financial stability for men. If someone doesn’t meet those visible standards, many people don’t even consider them enough to have a conversation with.

So are we truly choosing based on emotional understanding, character, peace, and compatibility or are we mostly choosing based on physical appearance and financial status, and only talking about deeper qualities afterwards?

I’m not saying attraction and financial responsibility don’t matter they do. But should they matter so much that a person doesn’t even get the chance to be known beyond them?

Would genuinely love to know how others see this.
