Here are 5 things to check first:

Their pictures: Use Google Lens to see whether the same photos appear under different names. Muzz app does not allow this though.

Video calls: Ask for a quick, spontaneous video call. If they keep making excuses, be cautious.

Their stories: Pay attention to inconsistencies in their age, job, location, family, or daily activities.

How quickly they get attached: If they start talking about love, marriage, or destiny after just a few conversations, don't rush into trusting them.

• Money requests: If they ask for money, investment, airtime, travel expenses, or emergency assistance, treat it as a major red flag.

One important thing: Don't mistake a private person for a fake one. Some genuine people have very little social media presence. Look for a pattern of suspicious behaviour rather than one isolated sign.
