It is truly disheartening when I propose a genuine relationship—with the intention of marriage—to a girl, only to be mocked.

Was I wrong for asking this?

I was talking to someone for marriage for almost 2 months. Had voice calls and video calls. We lived in different provinces and were planning to meet. I also made it clear to her that I only speak to one person at a time.

Before meeting, I asked if we could exchange our parents numbers so our families were at least aware and comfortable with things moving forward. I wasn’t asking for an engagement, I just didn’t want us to meet, get more attached, and then find out later that the distance/relocation was a dealbreaker for the families.

She said she would speak to her parents. After that, she told me they had concerns about the distance/relocation and she decided not to continue. I had asked this to her before and she was open for relocation. She also said she would have preferred meeting first.

Was I moving too fast (almost 2 months in) by involving family before the first meeting? Or does it make sense to establish that there’s actually a path forward first?

I’m currently going through my immigration process to Canada, insha’Allah, and I’m seriously considering Moncton, New Brunswick as a place to settle.

I’d love to hear from Muslims who live there or know the area well. How is the Muslim community, access to mosques and halal food, and overall life for someone who wants to practice Islam and eventually raise a Muslim family? I’d also appreciate honest feedback about racism or discrimination and whether you generally feel welcomed there.

I work in tech/digital, so job opportunities are also an important factor for me. If you recommend other cities or provinces with a good balance between tech opportunities, Muslim community, affordability and quality of life, I’m open to suggestions, except Ontario and Quebec.
