Marriage in Islam
In Islam, marriage (nikāḥ) is a lawful and honoured relationship between a man and a woman, established with the intention of companionship, affection, mercy, family life and mutual responsibility.
Allah says:
“And among His signs is that He created for you spouses from among yourselves so that you may find tranquillity in them, and He placed between you affection and mercy.”
Qur’an 30:21
Marriage is therefore more than simply being in a relationship. It provides a halal framework for love, intimacy, companionship and building a family.
Important principles
Good character and religion matter when choosing a spouse.
Both people should freely consent to the marriage.
The marriage involves rights and responsibilities for both husband and wife
The husband has financial responsibilities (nafaqah) according to his means.
The wife also has important rights, including good treatment, security and respect.
Islam encourages spouses to treat one another with kindness and compassion
A person’s age, ethnicity, social background or disability does not by itself make them unsuitable for marriage.
Parents can give advice and guidance, but their wishes do not mean that an adult Muslim must abandon every possibility of marriage.
If a marriage opportunity comes later in life, there is no Islamic age limit that prevents someone from marrying.
The Prophet ﷺ also said:
“The best of you are those who are best to their wives.”
So the Islamic ideal is not simply finding someone to marry, but building a marriage based upon faith, kindness, trust, responsibility and mercy.

Some Muslim women argue that if a Muslim man is permitted to marry a
Christian or a Jewish woman, why can’t they marry a Christian or a ? مشرکین Jewish man, as these men are not Polytheists/Idol Worshippers
I feel sorry for them because their Muslim parents failed to explain to
them from young age, that this is not permitted. Now they are in love
and they have to choose between their hearts and their Lord!
In Verse 60:10, Allah specifically prohibits that a Muslim woman should
marry a disbeliever (کافر Kafer).
60:10. “O you who have believed, when the believing
women come to you as emigrants, examine them. Allah is
most knowing as to their faith. And if you know them to be
believers, then do not return them to the disbelievers; they
are not lawful [wives] for them, nor are they lawful
[husbands] for them. But give the disbelievers what they
have spent. And there is no blame upon you if you marry
them when you have given them their due compensation.
And hold not to marriage bonds with disbelieving women,
but ask for what you have spent and let them ask for what
they have spent. That is the judgement of Allah; He judges
between you. And Allah is Knowing and Wise.”
Let me give the context for this Verse.
After the emigration of the Prophet Mohammed ﷺ from Makkah to
Medena, some women who were married to idol worshippers مشرکین in
Makkah decided to embrace Islam and they fled Makkah and went to
Medena. The Prophet ﷺ, was commanded by Allah in this Verse, to

Let me give the context for this Verse.
After the emigration of the Prophet Mohammed ﷺ from Makkah to
Medena, some women who were married to idol worshippers مشرکین in
Makkah decided to embrace Islam and they fled Makkah and went to
Medena. The Prophet ﷺ, was commanded by Allah in this Verse, to

examine them to ascertain if they were genuinely true believers or they
were just running away from their idol worshipper husbands.
If the Prophet ﷺ had ascertained that they are true believers, then he
was commanded not to return them to their husbands in Makkah, as
they were not lawful for each other, and to refund their husbands the
dowry they paid.
Allah said: “Don’t return them to the disbelievers”. He
didn’t say: “Don’t return them to the idol worshippers”,
although their husbands were idol worshipers. Allah
stated that they are not lawful to each other.
As explained above, every idol worshipper is a disbeliever کافر, but not
every disbeliever is an idol worshipper مشرک. Therefore, Allah is clearly
stating in 60:10 above that a Muslim woman can’t marry a nonbeliever, a
.کافر Kafer
A Christian or a Jewish man is an unbeliever, Kafer کافر as explained
above in Verses 5:17, 5:72 and 5:73. Therefore, a Muslim woman can’t
marry him.
But, although a Christian or a Jewish woman is also regarded by Allah as
an unbeliever, Kaferah کافرۃ, however, a Muslim man is permitted to
marry her as per Verse 5:5. This is the Command of Allah.

A chaste Muslim man can marry a chaste Muslim Woman
Whom Can I Marry? – An Islamic Perspective
He is also permitted to marry a chaste Christian or Jewish woman,
without requiring her to embrace Islam. She will have equal rights like a
Muslim wife.
It must be made very clear from the beginning that the children must be
brought up as Muslims. Also, Islamic Moral Law must be adhered to at all
times.
A chaste Muslim man is not permitted to marry an idol worshipper.
He is also not allowed to marry a woman who committed adultery, even
if she is a Muslim woman. However, if she repents and believes and does
righteous deeds then he may marry her as stated in Verse 25:70, below:
25:70. “Except for those who repent, believe, and do
righteous work. For them Allah will replace their evil
deeds with good. And ever is Allah Forgiving and
Merciful.”
She is not permitted to marry a Muslim man who committed adultery
unless he repents, believes, and do righteous deeds, as explained
above.
This is the Command of Allah. This is His Family Law. Believers have no
right to pick and choose. Believers submit their will to His Will by saying:
“We hear and obey”. 2:285
“There is no compulsion in religion”.2:256.

I know now that Allah was teaching me in those moments that it wasn't human beings that I needed.
Not a single soul knows what I know or feels exactly how I feel. He is the All-Knowing, so He knows better than anyone what my heart struggles with each day. He is the All-Seeing, so He sees what I hide away from the world. He is the All-Hearing, so He hears all my desperate pleas in the darkness of night.
The more I know of Allah, the more my heart stands in awe of Him. His promises are the absolute truth. And as long as I hold on to Him, I know He will never leave me.
What greater blessing could a heart ever receive than knowing Allah?

This article addresses the question:
“Whom Muslim men and women are permitted to marry
in accordance with Allah’s Family Law in the Quran?”
This question is frequently raised by Muslims living in the United
Kingdom, for understandable reasons.
My experience, when I lived in Egypt during the first 24 years of my life,
and before moving to the UK, we never had to deal with this question.
Egypt has Muslims, who are all Sunni, and a Christian minority, who are
Orthodox, living together in peace and harmony.
The Muslim population were all aware that a chaste Muslim man can
marry a chaste Muslim woman or a chaste Christian woman in
accordance with Verse 5:5 and a chaste Muslim woman can only marry
a chaste Muslim man as stated in Verse 60:10.
Not withstanding the above, no Christian family would accept a Muslim
son in law and no Muslim woman would dare to marry a Christian man,
against the wishes of her guardian. This could easily lead to honour
killings. So these social limits were fully observed by both, Muslims and
Christians living in Egypt. But there is a very small minority of Muslim men
who married Christian women. Unfortunately, it appears most of these
marriages have not been happy marriages.
A) The first group includes the following blood relatives or relatives by
marriage:
4:23. “Prohibited to you [for marriage] are your mothers,
your daughters, your sisters, your father's sisters, your
mother's sisters, your brother's daughters, your sister's
daughters, your [milk] mothers who nursed you, your
sisters through nursing, your wives' mothers, and your
step- daughters under your guardianship [born] of your
wives unto whom you have gone in. But if you have not
gone in unto them, there is no sin upon you. And [also
prohibited are] the wives of your sons who are from your
[own] loins, and that you take [in marriage] two sisters
simultaneously, except for what has already occurred.
Indeed, Allah is ever Forgiving and Merciful.
4:24. “And [also prohibited to you are all] married women
except those your right hands possess. [This is] the
decree of Allah upon you. And lawful to you are [all
others] beyond these, [provided] that you seek them [in
marriage] with [gifts from] your property, desiring
chastity, not unlawful sexual intercourse. So for whatever
you enjoy [of marriage] from them, give them their due
compensation as an obligation. And there is no blame
upon you for what you mutually agree to beyond the
obligation. Indeed, Allah is ever Knowing and Wise.”
The reverse of the above would apply to Muslim women. So a Muslim
woman can’t marry her father or her son or her brother, etc …
B) The second group includes those who committed adultery/
fornication and didn’t repent:
24:3. “The fornicator does not marry except a [female] fornicator or
polytheist, and none marries her except a fornicator or a polytheist, and
that has been made unlawful to the believers.”
C) The third group includes idol worshippers/ Polytheists:
2:221. “And do not marry women who are polytheists until
they believe, and a believing slave- girl is better than a
polytheistic woman, even though she may please you, and
do not give your women in marriage to men who are
polytheists until they believe, and a believing slave is
better than a polytheist, even though they may please you.
These invite you to the Fire and Allah invites you to the
Garden and forgiveness by His leave, and He makes clear
His revelations to mankind, that they may be mindful.”
D) It is Important to state that a chaste Muslim man is permitted to
marry a chaste Christian or Jewish woman, in accordance with Verse
5:5 below, although she is regarded by Allah as Kaferah کافرۃ , unbeliever,
as stated in Verses 5:17, 5:72 and 5:73, given below.
Allah doesn’t regard her as an idol worshipper, Mushrekah مشرکۃ . She is
from the People of the Book. That is the People who have been given the
Scripture before us.
There is a big difference between a (Mushrek مشرک), an idol
worshipper/polytheist and a (Kafer کافر), an unbeliever. Every idol
worshipper (Mushrek مشرک) is (Kafer کافر), unbeliever, but not every
unbeliever (Kafer کافر) is (Mushrek مشرک), idol worshipper. Allah has
clearly distinguished between both of them in many verses in the Quran.
Let me explain this further. If, a Muslim man, denies the five daily prayers
,مشرک unbeliever, but not a Mushrek ,کافر or the Zakat, he becomes a Kafer
idol worshipper. Similarly if he denies any of the Prophets of Allah, or
any of His Divine Revelations, or the Journey by Night by the Prophet
Mohammed ﷺ, or any of the Miracles of the Prophets of Allah, he
becomes a Kafer کافر, a disbeliever but not a Mushrek مشرک, an idol
worshipper.
I set out below the Verses which confirm that those who claim that
کافر Jesus is God or Son of God or God is Oneof
Three, are Kafer
unbelievers, but not Mushrekeen مشرکین, not idol worshippers. If they were
Mushrekeen مشرکین, idol worshippers, Muslim men would have been
prohibited to marry their women, as stated in Verse 2:221, given above.
5:17. “They have certainly disbelieved who say that Allah is
Christ, the son of Mary. Say, "Then who could prevent Allah
at all if He had intended to destroy Christ, the son of Mary, or
his mother or everyone on the earth?" And to Allah belongs
the dominion of the heavens and the earth and whatever is
between them. He creates what He wills, and Allah is over all
things competent.”
5:72. “They have certainly disbelieved who say, "Allah is the
Messiah, the son of Mary" while the Messiah has said, "O
Children of Israel, worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord."
Indeed, he who associates others with Allah - Allah has
forbidden him Paradise, and his refuge is the Fire. And there
are not for the wrongdoers any helpers.”
5:73. “They have certainly disbelieved who say, "Allah is the
third of three." And there is no god except one God. And if
they do not desist from what they are saying, there will surely
afflict the disbelievers among them a painful punishment.”

As I mentioned earlier, I will share with you my experiences and the situations I encountered on dating sites.
*Experience #2
A year ago, I met a Muslim man with the intention of marriage. We used to discuss the situation in our respective countries, as he was living in the United States while I was living in Kuwait.
During our conversations, I asked him if he suffered from any specific health conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, or heart disease and he replied that he had no health issues.
He then asked me if I had any health problems, I told him I didn't, but I did mention that I have had a stutter since birth (a condition that is not an issue for me)
However, his response was shocking, he said, "I noticed that, and I don't wish to marry a woman who stutters, so that the genes are not passed on to my children."
