Why We Avoid Truth About Ourselves (Islamic View)
People often struggle to be honest with themselves because truth can feel uncomfortable. It exposes mistakes, weaknesses, and responsibility. The mind naturally tries to protect itself from this discomfort by making excuses, delaying change, or shifting blame.
In Islamic thought, this is linked to the nafs (the self), which can pull a person toward desire and ego. When the nafs is unchecked, it becomes easier to justify wrong actions rather than face them. This is why self-accountability (muhasabah) is so important—it trains a person to reflect before excuses take over.
The Qur’anic worldview also warns against ghaflah (heedlessness), a state where a person knows the truth but avoids acting on it. Over time, this can harden the heart and make honesty with oneself more difficult.
True growth begins when a person chooses clarity over comfort—when they pause their excuses and face themselves with sincerity, even when it is difficult.
I think I've joined the padel hype.
My bank is going to suffer.
Who can we trust these days🤔
I’ve just came across a profile of someone I know very well, and the lies on profile left me gobsmacked. If anything, it’s a reminder that many men (not all, but let’s be honest, a majority) will fabricate anything. I won’t call him out no need. But ladies, this is yet another trap we’ve got to watch for. 😑
Do you drive an auto or manual? I’m aware, some may none, before you get all smart 👀
