A female doctor in Balochistan was reportedly attacked with acid yesterday. This is not just an attack on one woman—it is an attack on education, professional achievement, and the right of women to contribute to society.
When educated women become doctors, teachers, engineers, and leaders, they strengthen families and communities. Yet, many women continue to face harassment, threats, and violence simply for pursuing education and careers.
We must ask why women are so often targeted. Common reasons include prejudice, attempts to control women's choices, personal revenge, rejection, and harmful social attitudes that view independent women as a threat. None of these reasons can ever justify violence.
At the same time, stronger precautions are needed. better security measures, safer public spaces, strict enforcement of laws against acid attacks, community awareness, and support systems for victims.
Every girl deserves the right to study, work, and live without fear. Education should never become a reason for someone to be attacked. A society progresses when it protects its women, not when it limits them.
Violence is not strength. Respect, justice, and education are.
