I often see people’s bios (including my own) listing expectations like: emotionally mature, good communicator, open-minded, and so on.
But have you ever asked yourself:
“Am I emotionally mature enough to handle disagreements?”
“Am I open-minded enough to respect someone’s choices, even when they’re different from mine?”
We spend so much time setting standards for others, but do we hold ourselves to those same standards? Before asking whether someone is good enough for us, maybe we should ask whether we’re becoming the kind of person we’d want to marry.
