Saw some discussion about giving WhatsApp's username instead of phone numbers when someone asked to move the chat to another platform. It's actually great until I did some digging for my own peace of mind.

Turns out, even though that person added you by the username (and possibly with the unique key or code you gave them), when you accept their request and became an active chat, they will be able to see your display name. Why is it a big deal? Well it's not if your display name doesn't include your real name that people then can easily google to dig deeper about you.

So how to resolve this if you don't want your personal info known?

1. Change your display name to whatever your heart desire just not your real name.

2. If you can't change your display name because you're using your WhatsApp for important work related things, then maybe get another number.

Maybe I'm overthinkinging things but at least I got a reason to learn something new.

This feature isn't available yet in my country so I hope someone who knows more about this feature and have used it would add some more warnings or tips if they know more.
