A plant will bear fruit when it is cared for well—watered, nourished, and nurtured with love. In time, it will flourish and produce fruit.
The same is true of a marriage. If it is not cared for, protected, and nurtured, it cannot grow into a happy and fulfilling relationship.

Today, a husband shared his pain with me.

He wasn’t asking for praise.
He wasn’t asking to be worshipped.
He simply wished his efforts were seen.

It reminded me of a warning from the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ that has always humbled me.

He ﷺ said:

“If you were to do good to one of them for a lifetime, then she were to see one thing she disliked, she would say: ‘I have never received any good from you.’”
(Sahih al-Bukhari & Sahih Muslim)

I paused.

Because I’ve lived through this too.

Gratitude is one of the greatest protectors of a marriage. When gratitude dies, sacrifices become invisible, kindness becomes expected, and resentment takes root.

This reminder is not about proving men are always right or women are always wrong.

It is about guarding our hearts from ingratitude – a disease that can destroy families.

Before we remember our spouse’s faults, let us remember their sacrifices.

And before we complain to people, let us thank Allah for the blessings He has already placed in our homes.

A grateful heart doesn’t just strengthen a marriage.

It is beloved to Allah.

Where is love and how can it be found. It seems like we are blindly looking for love.
