Why do some people become materialistic?

After using Muzz for a while, I noticed many conversations started with questions about income and lifestyle instead of deen and character. It made me realize how easily we can all become influenced by worldly things.

I'm not saying everyone is like this, but my experience reminded me that Islam teaches us to value faith over wealth.
