From a religious perspective, Islamic teachings encourage people to consider faith and good character before wealth. The Prophet Muhammad said: “If there comes to you one whose religion and character please you, then marry him.” This highlights the importance of morality and piety when choosing a husband or wife.
However, in reality, there are several reasons why money and possessions have become more important in marriage decisions:
• Rising living costs: Many families worry about the future and therefore look for someone who can handle financial responsibilities.
• Changing social values: Some societies have begun to associate success more with appearance and wealth than with character and morals.
• The influence of social media: Constant exposure to luxurious lifestyles can lead some people to set highly materialistic standards.
• Fear of poverty or instability: Some families view financial security as an essential condition before anything else.
Before emancipation or throwing status, trying to convince others that you're somehow "better" than your spouse, maybe try to find a compromise and see if you can move forward...? 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
Lately, marriage has been on my mind a lot.
I've been searching for about a year and a half now(idk why jamma shows ive been here for 3 years 😭). I've met some amazing sisters, but I've also experienced conversations ending suddenly and being ghosted.
A family friend of mine, who's a couple of years younger than me, is married with a child and another on the way, mashaAllah. I'm genuinely happy for him. He used to be very immature. But, after getting married and having a baby, he has matured very well, mashallah. But, I'd be lying if I said I never compare my timeline to others.
Sometimes those comparisons make me wonder if marriage just isn't written for me. Then I remind myself that Allah's timing is always better than mine.
May Allah grant everyone searching for a righteous spouse a marriage filled with sakinah, mawaddah, and rahmah, bless those who are already married, and make us all content with His decree. Ameen.
It's so selfish to enter someone's life, see that they're a loving, cheerful, and good person, and decide to ruin their peace because you haven't dealt with your own issues.
Leave people alone if you have no intention of showing up with sincerity.🧐❤️
