The Mujahideen/Taliban started banning women’s education to cover for military training camps. Now they ban it because majority of educated women are not Pashtun and based on their recent behavior, there is nothing to guarantee that they will not be Saboteurs in the workforce. The Mujahideen had supported and provided security for girls to attend school in Islamabad. In my personal life, my brother was brain washed in Peshawar and laughed about my ability to be accepted into a certain program. It was my dad, a Pashtun, who reassured me that there is nothing mentally that a man can do that I could not. So I think your theory of banning female education as a Pashtun issue is not accurate. It is a multifactorial problem. Islam is blamed because it was weaponized to provide young Pashtun men a reason to fight against Russians.
