Trusting people is our decision, but proving us wrong is their choice.

The Silence After Always
She was always the first to check in.
"How are you?"
"Have you eaten?"
"How did your day go?"
She remembered birthdays.
She noticed when someone's voice sounded different.
She showed up when people needed her.
Then one day, she became quiet.
Not because she was angry.
She was simply tired of always being the one reaching across the distance.
And something strange happened.
Some people noticed.
Some did not.
At first, the silence frightened her.
She wondered,
"Do I still matter if I am not the one holding everything together?"
That question stayed with her for a while.
Then she understood something.
Being needed and being loved are not the same thing.
Sometimes we become so used to proving our worth through what we do for others that we forget we are worthy even when we are doing nothing at all.
You are still valuable when you do not answer immediately.
You are still lovable when you need rest.
You are still worthy when you are not the one checking on everyone.
Your absence may reveal who notices you.
But their response does not decide your worth.
You do not have to keep reaching for people just to prove that you deserve to be held.
Sometimes, you can put your hands down...
and let someone else reach for you.
