Does age difference really matter in marriage?

Do you think there’s a certain age gap between a man and a woman that becomes “too much”? Or is age just a number, and compatibility, maturity, and understanding matter more?

For example, I’ll be 38 this November. If I’m looking for a life partner, what age range do you think makes sense? Older than me? Younger? And how big of an age gap would you personally consider reasonable either way?
