There was a time when marriage was considered a simple Sunnah. Today, in many Muslim families, it has become a complicated project with endless conditions, unrealistic expectations, and never-ending discussions.

The boy must have a high-paying job, a house of his own, a settled career, and a promising future. The girl must be beautiful, highly educated, well-mannered, and capable of adjusting to every expectation of the groom's family. Then come the demands regarding family status, lifestyle, appearance, location, and social standing.

In the pursuit of the perfect spouse, we are making people wait for years for a marriage that was never supposed to be this complicated.

A boy earning an honest living is often considered unprepared for marriage because he hasn't achieved financial success at a young age. A girl who is ready to build a family is asked to wait until she completes her education, establishes her career, or reaches some arbitrary milestone. Education and financial stability are important, but must everything in life be completed before marriage can even be considered?

Ironically, the same society that delays marriage in the name of maturity and stability often ignores the emotional, psychological, and social consequences of prolonged waiting.

We speak endlessly about protecting our children from immoral influences, yet we sometimes make the halal path unnecessarily difficult. We worry about what relatives will say, but rarely think about the pressure our young people experience while waiting for something as natural as companionship.

The problem is not that every Muslim must marry early. The problem is that we have normalised unnecessary delays and started treating marriage like a luxury rather than a responsibility that deserves serious consideration.

Islam does not require a man to become wealthy before marriage, nor does it demand that a woman fulfil every worldly ambition before becoming a wife. Islam encourages simplicity, modesty, and the removal of unnecessary obstacles. At the same time, marriage requires responsibility, mutual consent, and the ability to fulfil one another's rights.

We must understand the difference between being responsible and being rich, between having reasonable standards and demanding perfection, and between preparing for marriage and endlessly postponing it.

Parents need to reconsider their priorities. Young men need to take responsibility for building a stable life. Young women deserve to have their preferences and aspirations respected. And families on both sides must learn that marriage is about building a life together, not presenting a finished product to impress society.

Nobody is asking anyone to compromise on character, religious values, compatibility, or essential needs. But when our expectations become so excessive that even sincere, decent, and responsible people struggle to find a spouse, perhaps the problem is no longer the people looking for marriage. Perhaps the problem is the system we have created around it.

A simple question for every Muslim family: Are we genuinely preparing our children for marriage, or are we setting so many conditions that we are making marriage increasingly unattainable for them?

Let's make Nikah simpler, expectations more realistic, and the search for a life partner more meaningful.

Because the purpose of marriage is not to find someone who has already achieved everything in life. It is to find someone with whom you can build a beautiful life, InshaAllah. 🤍

A Matrimonial Profile Is Not a Bodybuilding Portfolio!

I genuinely don't understand why some people feel the need to flaunt their physique on matrimonial sites. Like, are you here to find a life partner or to participate in a Mr. Universe competition? 😭

There's absolutely nothing wrong with being fit, attractive, or taking pride in your appearance. But when your matrimonial profile looks more like a gym photoshoot than an introduction to a potential spouse, it does make you wonder what exactly you're trying to attract.

Marriage isn't about finding someone who can admire your abs, biceps, or perfectly angled mirror selfies. It's about finding someone who can respect your character, understand your values, and stand beside you when life isn't looking picture-perfect.

Your body might grab someone's attention, but your character is what makes you worth staying for.

And honestly, a matrimonial platform should be about showcasing who you are, not just what you look like. There's a time and place for everything, and perhaps a marriage profile isn't the place to prove how good you look without a shirt.

Call me judgmental if you want, but I believe the way you present yourself says something about what you want people to notice first.

If you're looking for a spouse, present yourself as a potential life partner, not a product on display. 🙂

Why are girls so demanding these days?

In an arranged marriage, it seems that the boy is expected to have everything: a car, a good house in a good society, a stable job or successful business with a good income, a good family background, matching caste, good education, a height of 6 feet, handsome looks, a caring nature, no bad habits or addictions, financial/property backup, religious values—and the list goes on and on.

Honestly, arranged marriage seems to be getting more and more difficult these days.

What do you guys think? Which of these expectations do you think are unnecessary or unrealistic? What should actually matter most when choosing a life partner?
