I think we have made romance unnecessarily complicated.
Romance does not have to begin with secret conversations at 2am or become a performance for social media. Sometimes it is simply walking beside the person you intend to marry and noticing that they are walking a little slower than you.
It is remembering how they take their tea. Buying something small because it reminded you of them. Sitting somewhere public and talking for an hour without needing to touch each other to feel close. Looking forward to the day when ordinary things like grocery shopping become something you actually enjoy because the right person is standing beside you.
There is something beautiful about affection that knows where its boundaries are.
Not because love has to be cold before marriage.
But because there is a certain sweetness in knowing that some parts of your love are being saved for the day they become halal.
Perhaps romance was never supposed to be about how much of someone you can have before marriage.
Perhaps it is about how much tenderness you can carry towards someone while still respecting the distance between you.
