12 Angry Men (1957)
I was reading some news about the Lindsay case and realised there’s more to the story than what’s being presented.
Out of curiosity, I asked someone I thought was the right person to ask about it. I already had my own opinion, but I realised that without actually looking for the truth, my conclusion could still be biased.
He recommended that I watch 12 Angry Men (1957), a black and white classic. He had actually been introduced to the movie by his Harvard professor during a negotiation class, where watching it was one of the prerequisites.
It’s a remarkably simple movie, yet it makes you realise how easily assumptions can be mistaken for facts.
Set in a death penalty case, the film’s central message is that when someone’s life is at stake, certainty matters. As the jurors put it, “We’re talking about somebody’s life here.” It’s not about revenge or “an eye for an eye” it’s about whether the evidence is strong enough to eliminate reasonable doubt.
Overall: ⭐️ 8/10
