The Qur’an describes husband and wife as: “They are clothing for you and you are clothing for them” (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:187). The verse in particular paints marriage as two people becoming a shelter for one another through mercy, loyalty, patience, and love covering each other’s flaws, protecting each other from harm, bringing warmth in hardship, and remaining close in both peace and struggle.
I think the way I have seen men speak about women on here and their dominion and power over them doesn’t reflect this teaching well.

The Decline in Femininity and Changing Gender Roles in Modern Society
Modern Gender Role Shifts
Research shows major changes in gender roles due to education, employment and social development. Women now take on wider public and economic roles, while traditional distinctions between male and female responsibilities have become less fixed.
Family Structure and Responsibility
Economic pressure and modern lifestyles have reshaped family systems. Men and women increasingly share responsibilities, which some studies link to blurred traditional role expectations within households.
Feminism and Women’s Agency
Feminist research frames these changes as women gaining autonomy and choice. From this view, femininity is not lost but redefined, allowing women to choose careers, family life, or both depending on personal preference.
Islamic View on Gender Roles
Islamic teachings generally describe men and women as complementary, with shared spiritual value but different responsibilities in family structure. Men are often associated with provision and protection, while women are associated with nurturing, though interpretations vary among scholars.
Debate on Role Change
Some researchers argue that shifts in male responsibility have influenced changes in female behaviour, while others attribute it to broader economic and social transformation. There is no single agreed explanation across studies.
Conclusion
Modern gender roles are shaped by social and economic change. Both Islamic and academic perspectives suggest that stability is found less in rigid roles and more in responsibility, balance and mutual respect between men and women.
Football and Masculine Identity
Research in sociology and psychology shows that football often appeals to men because it reflects values traditionally associated with masculinity, including competition, teamwork, leadership, status and loyalty. Studies suggest many men use sport as a socially accepted space to express emotion, identity and belonging.
Brotherhood and Community
Researchers have found that football creates strong social bonds between men. Supporting a club gives fans a sense of brotherhood, shared purpose and collective identity. In many societies, football gatherings function as important social rituals that strengthen friendships and community ties.
Emotional Expression
Academic studies note that sport allows men to express emotions that may otherwise be discouraged in some cultures. Through football, men openly experience excitement, pride, disappointment and passion in a communal environment without social stigma.
A Muslim Perspective on Recreation
Islamic scholarship generally views sports and recreation as permissible when balanced and kept within ethical limits. Historical Islamic traditions encouraged physical strength, discipline and healthy competition. Many Muslim researchers argue football becomes problematic only when it leads to harmful behaviour such as neglecting obligations, aggression, gambling or excessive obsession.
Football as Modern Culture
Modern researchers describe football as more than entertainment; it operates as a cultural and social institution. For many men across different societies, religion, ethnicity and class backgrounds, football represents identity, tradition and emotional connection passed across gener
