read books that have nothing to do with design. watch films without checking your phone. visit museums even when you don't understand half of what you're looking at. get lost in cities. have conversations that change your vocabulary. fall in love. get your heart broken. cook something badly. learn another language. become interesting before you try to make interesting work. your portfolio can only borrow from the life you've actually lived.
