If marriage meant...

choosing between your comfort and building a new life together, how much would you be willing to compromise?

Stop wasting your energy trying to control what you can't control.

You can't control people.

You can't control timing.

You can't control every loss,

rejection, or setback.

You can control your response.

You can control your discipline.

You can control who you become.

Your circumstances shape your story.

They don't get to write the ending.

<CUSTOM_BOLD> Sorry for the long post </CUSTOM_BOLD>

I genuinely want to strengthen my imaan deeply, which is why this hurts so much. My mind constantly spirals over whether I am sinful, whether my intentions are wrong, whether Allah is disappointed in me, whether certain thoughts make me a bad person/ Muslim, whether I am being punished, whether I am doing enough, etc. The thoughts become obsessive and exhausting and it feels like my brain cannot rest.

I also grew up in an environment where religion was heavily tied to fear, guilt, shame, and fearmongering rather than emotional safety or peace. A lot of things were framed in terrifying ways growing up, so now my anxiety attaches itself to religion very easily. Instead of feeling comfort, I often feel panic, dread, guilt, and fear that I am failing Allah somehow.

My mental health in general is already not good due to years of emotional abuse, having a dysfunctional home and multiple traumatic experiences from every aspect of my life (I'm diagnosed with c-ptsd). Even though I've been seeking professional support for years, my situation is too complicated and will take time. I am at a point where I struggle to even do basic things consistently or function normally. So prayer becomes emotionally complicated too because people assume it is simple laziness when in reality I often feel physically and mentally frozen.

I want to pray and I want closeness to Allah. But when you are barely surviving mentally, even getting up feels overwhelming sometimes. Then the guilt of not praying makes the anxiety even worse, which creates an awful cycle.

My parents even thought that I might be cursed or spiritually affected because of how badly I have been struggling mentally and emotionally, which honestly made things worse for me, because they would rather call me cursed than take accountability for the trauma they caused.

Sometimes I cannot tell what is genuine faith anymore along with the anxiety, trauma, fear, or OCD thoughts. I feel very alone in this because a lot of people respond harshly or make the fear worse instead of understanding the psychological side of it.

I just wanted to know if any other Muslims have experienced this and how you cope with it (religious trauma) in a healthy way without burning yourself out emotionally? Am I selfish for hoping to give my love and care for a future partner while I'm trying to heal through everything? Am I too broken to find genuine love? 😞

Prayers please required for a member who has interacted with a few of you here lately. We never know what someone might be dealing with. Beyond the jokes and banter, someone might just be holding on. Always be kind and keep each other in your prayers. It could be just that which saves them 🙏
