I don't want to run away but I can't take it, I don't understand
If I'm not made for you then why does my heart tell me that I am?
Is there any way that I can stay in your arms?

24 years later, still one of my fave songs 🥹

And all the roads we have to walk are winding
And all the lights that lead us there are blinding
There are many things that I would like to say to you
But I don't know how
Because maybe…

I don't think the saddest part of my story is that I never became a musician.

The saddest part is that I can still see her.

The girl who believed she would spend her life chasing melodies instead of deadlines. The girl who imagined late nights in recording studios, headphones resting around her neck, laughing with people who spoke the same language she did, the language of music.

She feels so real.

Sometimes I wonder if she's been waiting for me all these years. Waiting in a studio that only exists in my mind. Waiting for a song I'll never write. Waiting for a version of me that never arrived.

People say we should stop looking back. But no one talks about what it's like to miss someone who was supposed to become you.

I buried the dream because I thought that's what growing up meant. I chose the safer road. I learned how to live without the life I wanted. But I never learned how to stop grieving it.

Even now, I still sing.

Not because I'm holding on to the dream, but because singing is the only place where I can still meet the girl I had to leave behind.

For a few minutes, every melody lets us exist in the same room again. Then the song ends.

And she stays in the studio, while I walk back into the life that never learned how to sound like home.
