“But when they forgot that with which they had been reminded, We opened to them the gates of all things until, when they rejoiced in that which they were given, We seized them suddenly, and they were plunged into despair.” [Al-An’am: 44] Meaning: When they abandoned the admonition they had received and did not heed God’s reminders, God opened for them the gates of blessings, sustenance, and comfort, until they thought that their state was permanent good and rejoiced in what they had been given. Then God seized them suddenly with punishment while they were heedless.

This verse warns that an abundance of wealth, sustenance, and comfort is not always a sign of God’s favor; it may be a test if a person persists in sin and abandons repentance.
