A guy immigrated to Canada and found a job as a salesman at a giant department store.
​At the end of his first day, the manager gathered the sales team and asked how many customers each person served. The numbers were pretty solid: the first said 50 customers, the second said 45, and the third said 37.
​When it came to the new guy, he said, "I only served one customer."
​The manager blew his top and shouted, "Just one?! You need to learn how to serve customers better and upsell so you can make more sales!" Then he asked, "And how much was the total sale?"
​"300,000 dollars," the salesman replied.
​The manager’s jaw dropped. "WHAT?! What on earth did you sell him for that much?!"
​The salesman explained:
​First, I sold him a fishing rod.
​Second, I advised him that fishing out in the middle of the lake is much better than staying on the shore, so I sold him a boat.
​Third, I asked how he planned to haul the boat to the lake, so I sold him a trailer.
​Fourth, I pointed out that his current car couldn't handle towing it, so I sold him a Range Rover.
​Fifth, I suggested that since he has a boat now, he should use a fishing net alongside the rod.
​Sixth, I recommended camping out there since he's spending the day fishing, so I sold him a tent.
​Seventh, I sold him a grill to cook whatever he catches.
​The manager stared in disbelief. "Are you trying to convince me the guy came in for a fishing rod and you managed to sell him all of that
​"Actually," the salesman replied, "he came in to buy a fish. I just said, 'Why buy a fish on a Sunday? Why not go out and catch it yourself?'"
