I have noticed an interesting pattern.

In many cases people who turn to matchmaking aunties matrimonial apps or marriage platforms do so because they could not find a suitable match through family relatives or mutual acquaintances.

When marriages happen within trusted social circles people often already know each other's families reputations values and backgrounds. That familiarity reduces uncertainty so the process tends to be smoother and expectations are often more realistic.

On the other hand when strangers are searching for a spouse through apps or matchmaking services they have very little information to go on. As a result many become far more selective. Height income education appearance family status lifestyle and many other preferences are examined. Since there are so many profiles to choose from people often believe that an even better option is just one more swipe away.

This does not mean everyone on matrimonial platforms is overly picky or that everyone who marries through relatives has an easy experience. But the lack of trust and familiarity often makes the process much harder with higher expectations and more rejections.

Sometimes it is not that good people do not exist. It is that modern matchmaking creates a marketplace where everyone is trying to find the best possible option.

According to Pakistan's latest nationwide data (population aged 20+):

• 77.3% are currently married.
• 17.5% have never married.
• 4.5% are widowed.
• 0.4% are divorced.
• 0.2% are separated.

Despite frequent headlines about rising divorce cases, divorced people still make up less than 1% of Pakistan's adult population.

So why does it feel like divorce is everywhere?

Because Pakistan has a population of over 240 million. Even a very small percentage translates into hundreds of thousands of people. Add to that the fact that most divorce cases are concentrated in large cities and heavily covered by news and social media, and it's easy to overestimate how common divorce actually is.

Divorce cases have increased in recent years but nationally Pakistan continues to have one of the lowest proportions of divorced adults compared with countries like the United States and much of Europe.
