There's a strange arithmetic to respect the less you ask for it, the more people seem to owe it to you. I think it's because most people spend their life performing worth, and performance always smells faintly of doubt. The ones who don't perform, who simply exist at their own pace, become impossible to ignore precisely because they aren't asking to be seen. Maybe that's the real hierarchy, invisible to most not who talks the loudest, but who no longer needs to.

There's a certain kind of quiet that command earns on its own. I've never needed to raise my voice to be heard, or announce my worth to be recognized. The ones who matter already know. The ones who don't will figure it out eventually, or they won't either way changes nothing for me. I built what I have with patience, not permission. And that's the only kind of respect worth keeping the kind nobody has to be reminded to give.

Shams asked Rumi a question that took him a lifetime to answer: who is greater, the Prophet or Bayazid, who said "lGlory be to me? The Prophet, always aware of his own limits, said i cannot praise You enough. Bayazid, drunk on a single moment of nearness, forgot himself entirely. Maybe that's the difference between wisdom and ecstasy one carries the weight of the world with open eyes, the other loses itself completely in a single glance of truth. Most of us live somewhere between the two, half awake, half drowned, still learning which kind of surrender we're capable of.

There's a kind of love that doesn't ask to be understood, only to be felt. Shams once said a lamp doesn't dim because it burns for one person instead of a crowd. Maybe that's what real connection is not the noise of being seen by everyone, but the quiet of being truly known by even one soul. We spend so much of life searching outward for what was always meant to be found within. The heart, once it stops chasing, becomes the mirror it was always meant to be.
