I am sharing this experience to warn other women to remain extremely careful when speaking to strangers online, especially men who use marriage, employment, travel, or financial opportunities to gain trust.

I recently matched with a man on a marriage app who introduced himself as Sammy from Egypt. At first, the conversation appeared normal and casual, just like many introductory conversations on such platforms.

After some time, he began asking for my personal details and WhatsApp number. I clearly told him that I was not comfortable sharing my phone number or WhatsApp with someone I had just met. Instead, I agreed to communicate through Instagram.

Once we connected there, the conversation suddenly changed. He started discussing a supposed work opportunity and asked whether I would be interested in working with him. He claimed that he would pay me $500 and provide a visa, flight ticket, and accommodation.

Initially, I considered the possibility that it might be a genuine and professional opportunity. However, because the offer was vague and unusually generous, I directly asked him, “What is the catch?”

He avoided answering my question properly.

Later, he mentioned that I could stay with him and that we could live in the same room. This was completely inappropriate, unprofessional, and against my personal, religious, and moral boundaries. I immediately made it clear that I would never agree to share a room with a man I am not married to, and that I do not accept this type of arrangement.

This experience made me realize how some individuals may use different tactics to approach women. They may first present themselves as serious marriage candidates, then offer employment, money, travel, accommodation, or even promises of marriage. Once trust has been created, their real intentions may become clearer.

I am not posting this to create unnecessary drama. I am sharing what personally happened to me so other women can recognize similar warning signs and protect themselves.

🚩 Warning signs to notice:

• Asking for your private contact details very quickly
• Moving the conversation away from the marriage app
• Offering money, employment, visas, tickets, or accommodation without proper documentation
• Refusing to explain the job role, company, contract, or responsibilities
• Avoiding direct questions when asked about the conditions of the offer
• Suggesting shared accommodation or the same bedroom
• Mixing marriage promises with financial or travel offers
• Pressuring you to ignore your personal or religious boundaries
• Making an offer that appears too generous or too easy to be genuine

No legitimate employer should ask a woman to share a bedroom with him as a condition of employment or accommodation. A genuine work opportunity should include a verified company, official email, written contract, clear job description, separate accommodation, professional communication, and lawful visa arrangements.

Women should never feel guilty for refusing to share their number, location, passport details, photographs, or personal documents. Your privacy and safety are more important than appearing polite.

Please verify every opportunity independently. Inform a trusted family member or friend, save screenshots, report suspicious profiles, and block anyone who pressures you or makes you uncomfortable.

Marriage apps should be used for respectful and serious intentions—not as a way to manipulate women through fake promises of marriage, employment, money, or international travel.

Please stay alert and trust your instincts. When something feels inappropriate, unclear, rushed, or unsafe, step away immediately.

Protect yourself. Protect other women. Speak up and report suspicious behaviour.*
