A young man came to a father seeking his daughter's hand in marriage.

The father said,
“Answer just one question, and my daughter is yours.”

The young man replied,
“What is it?”

The father asked,
“At what time is the adhān for Ṣalāt al-Fajr?”

The young man could not answer. So the father said,
“What has been entrusted to me is precious, and you are not yet prepared for its responsibility.”

Ash-Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymīn (may Allāh have mercy on him) said:

“Ask yourself about salāh in its proper time and your observance of it, specifically Salāt-ul-Fajr. If you are from those who pray it on time consistently, then know that you are a believer and there is nothing between you and Paradise except you dying. And if you have neglected it then rush to rescue yourself.”

[Ash-Sharh-ul-Mumti’ 2/27,28]

Before asking for someone's daughter, ask yourself about your relationship with Allah. For the one who cannot guard his prayer will struggle to guard the trust of a family.

I just wanted to say that I have a great deal of love and respect for you all. Embracing a new faith takes courage, sincerity, and a willingness to change your life for the sake of Allah. That journey isn’t easy, and I truly admire it.

Keep learning, keep asking questions, keep reading, and keep growing. Islam is a lifelong journey, and every step you take for the sake of Allah is valuable.

Also, if there are any reverts or converts from the UK, I’d genuinely be interested in getting to know someone for marriage. I’ve always admired the sincerity and dedication many reverts show towards Islam. I believe having a spouse who is passionate about learning the deen would also encourage me to grow and become a better Muslim, In shā’ Allāh.
