In Islam, marriage is strongly encouraged for both men and women, including those who have reverted (converted) to Islam. The encouragement is based on wisdom, mercy, and the well-being of individuals and society. A revert has the same dignity and rights as any other Muslim.

Some of the main reasons marriage is encouraged are:

It follows the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. He encouraged marriage and said:
“O young people, whoever among you is able to marry, let him marry…”
(Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim)

It helps protect chastity and modesty. Marriage provides a lawful way to fulfill emotional and physical needs while avoiding fornication and other prohibited relationships.

It brings tranquillity, love, and mercy. Allah says:
“And among His signs is that He created for you from yourselves mates that you may find tranquillity in them; and He placed between you affection and mercy.”
(Qur’an 30:21)

It helps spouses support one another in faith. A righteous husband and wife encourage each other to pray, remember Allah, and live according to Islamic values.

It strengthens families and society. Marriage provides a stable environment for raising children and preserving family ties.

Regarding reverts to Islam, Allah judges people by their faith and righteousness, not by their background. The Qur’an says:

“Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you.”
(Qur’an 49:13)

The Prophet ﷺ also said:
“A woman may be married for four things: her wealth, her lineage, her beauty, and her religion. Choose the one with religion, may your hands be rubbed with dust.”
(Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim)

This principle applies to both men and women. A sincere revert who is practicing Islam may be an excellent marriage partner. The Prophet ﷺ married companions who had embraced Islam, and many of the Prophet’s companions also married reverts.

For someone who is seeking marriage, Islam encourages placing trust in Allah, making duʿā’, taking lawful means to find a suitable spouse, and giving priority to good character (akhlaq) and religious commitment (taqwa) over ethnicity, nationality, or family background.

  2. Surah Al-Kawthar (108) – 3 verses
The shortest surah in the Qur’an, giving glad tidings to the Prophet ﷺ.

  3. Surah Al-’Aṣr (103) – 3 verses
Teaches that mankind is in loss except those with faith, righteous deeds, truth, and patience.

  4. Surah An-Naṣr (110) – 3 verses
Speaks of Allah’s victory and the importance of glorifying and seeking His forgiveness.

  5. Surah Al-Falaq (113) – 5 verses
A prayer seeking Allah’s protection from external harms.

  6. Surah An-Nās (114) – 6 verses
A prayer seeking Allah’s protection from the whisperings of Shayṭān.

  7. Surah Al-Māʿūn (107) – 7 verses

These surahs are frequently recited in the daily prayers and are excellent choices for memorization.
