I saw a tall, dark, and handsome brother at Sam’s today. I was struggling to open one of the refrigerator doors when he stepped in and offered to help. The first thing I noticed was that he seemed to be with his father, or at least I assumed he was, and the father was wearing a turban, so I immediately thought, he’s Sikh.
We crossed paths a couple more times throughout the store, exchanging small smiles each time. Nothing was said, but the way his eyes lingered made it seem like he wanted to approach me but couldn’t in front of the older gentleman.
Later, while I was pumping gas outside, he pulled into the spot right next to mine even though his fuel tank was on the same side as mine, and for a moment, I couldn’t help but wonder if he wanted me to notice him standing there beside my car. I did notice. But I had already told myself this wasn’t going anywhere because of our different religions, so I pretended not to see him. I got into my car and drove away.
Still, for a fleeting moment, it felt a little like something out of a dream 😮💨
