Empathy Isn’t Gendered
Empathy is becoming a rare commodity these days, especially within our own Muslim communities. We need to stop turning every discussion into the Olympics: Men versus Women edition. Nobody is collecting a gold medal.
Allah gave men and women different rights, responsibilities and tests. There is wisdom and khayr in that.
Brothers, when a woman is on her period, maybe choose empathy over eye-rolls. Cramps, hormones, bloating, headaches, mood swings… it’s not exactly a spa day. 😭
A righteous man wouldn’t stoop so low as to mock a woman for something Allah created her to experience. He would try to make it easier for his wife, his mother, his sister or his daughter. That’s what mercy looks like. Compassion costs nothing.
And no, that doesn’t excuse women treating people badly. But let’s also stop acting like every woman transforms into a Disney villain once a month.
And sisters, please don’t forget the brothers either.
Many are carrying the huge pressure of providing, protecting and worrying about their families every single day. Just because Allah made him the qawwam doesn’t mean he doesn’t need encouragement. A genuine “<CUSTOM_BOLD>I appreciate everything you do” can mean more than you think.
Everyone wants to feel valued and appreciated. That’s not masculinity or femininity. That’s humanity. The internet wants men and women to compete. Islam teaches us to complete one another.
Marriage isn’t a competition to see who’s got it harder. It’s two people trying to make life easier for each other.
We need to stop keeping score, have more shukr, more empathy and above all, have more mercy towards one another. Thats how stronger communities and families are built.
