تملكتم عيني وقلبي ومسمعي وروحي واحشائي وكلي واجمعي
You have possessed my eyes, my heart, my hearing, my soul, my innermost being, my all, and everything of me.

وسمتموني في بديع جمالكم فلم أدرِ في بحر الهوى أين موضعي
You branded me with your wondrous beauty, so I no longer know where I stand in this ocean of love.

ولما فني صبري وطال تشوقي وفارقني نومي وحرمت مضجعي
And when my patience ran out, my longing grew long, sleep left me, and I was deprived of my bed...

أتيت لقاضي الحب قلت أحبتي جفوني وقالوا أنت في الحب مدّعي
I went to the judge of love and said: “My beloved have abandoned me.” And they said: “You’re just making claims about love.”

وعندي شهود للصبابة والأسى يزكون دعواي إذا جئت أدعي
But I have witnesses for my heartbreak and grief who will testify for my claim when I come to plead it.

سهادي ونوحي واكتئابي ولوعتي وشوقي وحرّني واصفراري وادمعي
My sleeplessness, my wailing, my depression, my agony, my longing, my burning, my paleness, and my tears.

ومن عجب أني أحنّ إليهم وأسأل شوقاً عنهم وهم معي
And strangely, I still yearn for them and ask about them with longing, even though they’re with me.

وتبكيهم عيني وهم في سوادها ويشكو النوى قلبي وهم بين أضلعي
My eyes cry for them while they’re in the black of my eyes, and my heart complains of separation while they’re between my ribs.

فإن طالبوني في حقوق هواهم أقول فقير لا عليّ ولا معي
So if they demand from me the rights of their love, I say: I’m broke — I have nothing for them, nor with me.

وإن قيدوني في سجون جفاهم دخلت عليهم بالسجون المُسجَع
And if they imprison me in the jails of their coldness, I’ll enter upon them with rhymed verses from prison.

#But we were forced to part with our dreams, accept cruel fate by forgetting our dreams, and swallow the bitterness of a world that demands that we stand on the real world. 🐲🏀 & ⚪🌷
