The Path to Love: A Guide for Muslim Women Seeking Meaningful Connection

The Illusion of Readiness

We live in a world that romanticises love while simultaneously misunderstanding its very essence. Every day, we witness relationships crumble, hearts shatter, and promises broken - not because love is impossible, but because we have lost sight of what love truly demands.

Before you seek love,
Before you open your heart to another,
You must ask yourself a difficult question:
Are you truly ready?

If you are not prepared to place the needs of others ahead of your own, then please, refrain from attempting to love. You are not yet capable of it. This is not a condemnation; it is a mercy - both to yourself and to those you might otherwise inadvertently harm.

The Reality of Our Journey

We enter this world alone, and we leave it in the very same manner. Between these two momentous occurrences lies the entirety of our existence- and what unfolds during this time depends greatly on you, though not entirely.

You cannot control everything from beginning to end. You cannot have everything you desire exactly when you want it. This is the nature of life, and accepting this truth is the first step toward wisdom.

However, you can increase the probability of attaining what you seek. More importantly, you must realise that the most significant elements of our lives are not possessions or achievements, but people. And finding good people to share our lives with is, to a considerable degree, within our control.

The Purpose of Existence

We live for ourselves, and we live for others.
We exist to inspire,
To affect,
To improve,
And to change those who share this world with us.

The truth is that what moulds us most profoundly into the people we become are other people.

The individuals we encounter and interact with have a profound effect on our character, our choices, and our destiny.

Our interactions throughout life lead us to make pivotal decisions - as well as countless smaller ones. Everything we do serves to benefit someone's life, whether another's or our own. The only purpose of life is to affect it, and the only good purpose is to affect it positively.

Release your Ego

Whether you focus on yourself, those closest to you, or those you have never met - and to what degree - depends entirely on your level of egocentricity. The more egocentric you are, the more you focus on yourself alone. As you move away from egocentricity, you begin to focus increasingly on others.

Defining Love

Love is a word we use so freely that its meaning has become diluted, almost meaningless in its overuse. I find it far easier to define love by stating what it is not. The opposite of love, in the clearest terms I can offer, is egocentricity.

The less egocentric you become, the more capable you are of loving. The more egocentric you remain, the more you love yourself- though let us be honest, this is more vanity than genuine love.

The only way to truly love is to be less egocentric - to place the needs and well-being of others before your own. When you are willing to prioritise another's happiness above your own, you are participating in the phenomenon we call love.

To summarise: when you are ready to place a living being's happiness above your own, you are ready to love. If you attempt to love before reaching this state, you will fail miserably - and worse, you will break those you sought to benefit.

Love in Practice

To love your family is to want their happiness.

To love your friends is to wish for their smiles.

To love is to need them to forget their problems and worries, to live life as we all wish to live it - in peace and harmony.

The definition of love is actually quite simple: you must care about someone else as much as you care about yourself, perhaps even more.

If you can manage to care about another person as intensely as you care about yourself, then you are loving.

Do not confuse love with its physical expressions. S3x itself is not love, though it can be a representation of it. Love itself is caring, and acting to physically manifest that care into meaningful results. It is the daily choice to prioritise another's wellbeing - through patience, through kindness, through sacrifice.

A Call to Readiness

For my Muslim sisters seeking love, I offer this gentle but firm counsel: Do not promise love when you cannot deliver. Do not enter into relationships when you have not yet cultivated the selflessness that true love demands. To do so is to risk breaking the only people in your life who matter to you - and yourself in the process.

Allah (SWT) has created us to love and to be loved, but He has also given us the responsibility to prepare ourselves for this sacred trust. A successful marriage in Islam is built upon mawaddah (love) and rahmah (mercy), qualities that require us to look beyond ourselves, to see the humanity in our partners, and to serve one another.

Take time to examine your heart. Have you learned to put others first? Can you prioritise your spouse's emotional, physical, and spiritual needs alongside your own? Are you ready to support, nurture, and grow with another soul?

If the answer is not yet, that is okay. Use this time of singleness to develop your capacity for love. Strengthen your relationship with Allah, serve your community, care for your family - these acts of selflessness will prepare you for the greater love that awaits.

The Promise of Love

Love is not something you find; it is something you become ready to give. It is not a destination but a journey of continuous selflessness. When you are truly ready, love will come - not as a mere feeling, but as a commitment, a sacrifice, and a blessing from your Creator.

May Allah prepare our hearts for the love that is pure, the love that is selfless, and the love that brings us closer to Him and to one another. Ameen.

"And of His signs is that He created for you from yourselves mates that you may find tranquillity in them; and He placed between you affection and mercy." (Surah Ar-Rum)

Not everyone who smiles is asleep. Not everyone who's silent is blind.

21/ july /2026 @Delhi

The events unfolding across our country over the past few weeks have made me reflect deeply on what kind of person I want to be.

We were taught to chase careers. Life taught me to protect my conscience.
Staying informed isn't hatred. Staying human isn't rebellion..

I'm just trying to stay awake in a world that profits from sleep.

Are you the provider, or is Allah (SWT)?

Too many men—and women—forget that. They begin to see themselves as the actual providers, when in reality they are only the means through which Allah (SWT) provides.

Never let your income make you forget the true Source.

This is also for those who believe that today's economy makes it impossible for a man to fulfill his responsibility as a provider.
