Promises tell you what someone hopes to be. Consistency tells you who they really are.

The painful part isn't just the broken promise..it's the broken trust. When someone repeatedly says, "I'll always be here," "I'll marry you," or "I'll never hurt you," then does the opposite, it can make you question your own judgment.

A better indicator than promises is consistent actions over time. Anyone can make beautiful promises, but a trustworthy person consistently matches their words with their behavior.
