There is a conversation we need to have about attention, because too often people confuse being noticed with being valued.
Yes, women generally receive more attention, especially in dating spaces. This has been true for a long time, and it is partly because men have historically been more likely to initiate, pursue, and express interest first. But the mistake people make is assuming that all attention is a privilege.
Attention is not automatically care, respect or love.
A woman receiving many messages on a does not mean she is receiving meaningful connections. A lot of that attention can be shallow, unwanted, disrespectful, or focused only on appearance. Being approached more often does not necessarily mean being understood more deeply. Sometimes having more attention means having more noise to filter through.
At the same time, many men experience a different struggle. They may feel invisible, overlooked, or like their emotional needs are ignored. That loneliness is real and deserves empathy. But turning that pain into resentment toward women only creates more distance between both sides.
In the end women may struggle with filtering through attention that lacks sincerity. Men may struggle with finding attention and emotional validation in the first place. The comparison between men and women in dating often becomes a competition over who suffers more, and that conversation usually misses the point.
But here is where the conversation often goes wrong: some men look at the attention women receive and assume women have an easier life in every way. Some women look at men’s struggles and assume men are simply complaining. Both perspectives are incomplete.
Men need to learn that access to women’s attention is not the same as access to women’s love, respect, or companionship. Women need to recognize that a man’s desire to feel appreciated and wanted is not weakness. Many men go through life rarely hearing that they are valued, attractive, or emotionally important.
The problem is not that one side has more attention. The problem is that both sides often fail to understand what the other side is actually missing.
