expected of them, according to what is reasonable. But the men have a degree (of responsibility) over them. And Allah is Exalted in Might and Wise.”
— Quran 2:228

The phrase “similar to what is expected of them” establishes the principle of mutual rights and obligations. Classical scholars explain that spouses owe each other good treatment, respect, and fulfillment of marital rights.

Another important verse is:

“They (your wives) are clothing for you, and you are clothing for them.”
— Quran 2:187

This beautiful metaphor describes marriage as a relationship of mutual protection, comfort, dignity, and closeness. It applies equally to husbands and wives.

The Qur’an also says:

“Live with them in kindness (ma’ruf).”
— Quran 4:19

Although this verse is addressed directly to husbands, the Qur’an’s broader principle of ma’ruf (what is good, kind, and honorable) is understood to govern the conduct of both spouses.

In addition, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ explicitly instructed women to fulfill the rights of their husbands just as he instructed men to fulfill the rights of their wives. Islamic teachings present marriage as a partnership built on mercy, affection, justice, and mutual respect—not one-sided obligations.

Peace of mind creates joy. Joy gives life its color. Without both, you're just surviving—not truly living.✨

Fast-track Nikah vs. Taking your time?
Some couples meet and get married within months to secure the barakah early. Others prefer taking a year or more to truly test compatibility and conflict styles.
Team Fast-Track: Align on core values, involve family, and tie the knot.
Team Take-It-Slow: Take time to see how they handle real-life stress first.
How long do you think is the "ideal" timeline from meeting to marriage? Let’s debate below! 👇
