Indeed, Satan is an enemy to you; so take him as an enemy [to humanity].
He only invites his party [demons, tyrants, oppressors, hypocrites]
to be among the companions of the Blaze.

On the Day of Judgment, Shaytan will abandon humanity and say:
And I had no authority over you, except that I called/invited you,
and you obeyed/answered me; so do not blame me but blame yourselves.

• -Surat Ibrahim, 14:22

Your greatest and most dangerous enemy is not Shaytan (the external deceiver);
it is your nafs (the internal traitor, the lower self, ego, carnal and/or primitive desires).
A nafs uncontrolled acts as Shaytan's internal accomplice.

While he is an enemy to humanity, Shaytan can only " invite" you to sin. He possesses no power of physical coercion and can only whisper, suggest and invite. Humans choose whether to accept or reject his invitations [through free will]. The internal force that actually accepts those whispers and chooses to execute the invitations to sin is the unpurified nafs.

Imam al-Sadiq (as) narrated: When the Prophet (pbuh) welcomed back soldiers
from military combat in defense of Islam, he said:
You have returned from the Lesser jihad to the Greater jihad.
When asked what the Greater jihad was, the Prophet answered:
The struggle against one's nafs.

Imam Ali (as) said: The slave of desire is a slave in perpetuity;
the ignorant is one whose desires have enslaved him.

• -Ghurar al-Hikam wa Durar al-Kalim, Saying 3864

Beware of your internal traitor, and greatest enemy,
and conquer it before it conquers you.

Upon visiting their home while Lady Fatima (as) was preparing and cooking a meal,
the Prophet (pbuh) saw that Imam Ali (as) was offering her a helping hand by picking out lentils.

The Prophet said: "Every man, who helps his wife in the house, Allah will write for him
as much hairs on his body (the reward of) worship of a year, fasting in a day, and worshipping
all the night. Allah will give him the reward of the patient and the righteous."

The Prophet used this moment, Imam Ali's devotion to Lady Fatima, as a model for love
and to highlight the spiritual value and reward of helping one's wife in the household,
by equating the act to prolonged worship and patience.

Imam al-Sadiq (as) said: He who devotes his heart to this world will be subjected
to three conditions: endless grief, unquenchable desire, and futile hope.
