Childhood memories....

At the age of 15, my friends, my big brother, and I had a brilliant idea.

Every Sunday night, we used to play “Ghost Ghost.”

Yes, you read that correctly. We had absolutely nothing better to do with our lives.

One particular Sunday, everyone already knew that the legendary Ghost Ghost game was happening.

And our big brother was fully committed to the role.

He wrapped himself in a completely black burqa from head to toe, and covered his face with so much white powder that, from a distance, he looked less like a "NUN" and more like a ghost who had been professionally sponsored by a flour company.

Then the game began.

My brother started wandering through the streets like a low-budget horror-movie villain.

Suddenly, he spotted one of our neighbours standing alone in the darkness.

And apparently, our brother decided that this was his Oscar moment.

He stood there, completely still, staring at the man and smiling.

As the poor man came closer, my brother suddenly grabbed him.

The man panicked and started screaming:

“BHOOT! BHOOT!”

He somehow managed to escape from my brother and ran for his life.

A little while later, more people from the neighbourhood showed up.

And that was the exact moment our little Sunday-night entertainment officially became a community emergency.

Our families found out.

We were thoroughly beaten.

And, as the final reward for our contribution to neighbourhood horror, we were banned from leaving the house for an entire week.

We had started the night playing ghosts.

By the end of it, we had become the ghosts—because for the next seven days, nobody was allowed to see us outside.

Memories from 2007.

My Moral Science teacher sent a girl from Class 6-A to find me.

She came and asked,
“Who is Akhter?”

I proudly replied, “I am.”

Being the class topper, naturally, the entire class turned to look at me.

My friends immediately said,
“You’re finished.”

So I went to Class 6-A.

“May I come in, ma’am?”

“Yes, come in.”

She looked at my notebook and asked,
“What on earth have you written here?”

I replied:

“The syllabus has not been completed yet. Kindly do not count these 20-mark questions.”

Yes. That was actually what I had written—in handwriting so terrible that it probably required archaeological expertise to decipher.

I still have no idea how ma’am managed to read it.

Then she asked,
“Tell me, why did you feel the need to write this?”

I said,
“Ma’am… bhook.”

“What?”

“You didn’t bring your tiffin?”

“No, ma’am. I’m hungry for marks.”

She stared at me 🤔
and smile 😊

I continued:

“And you haven’t even taught us this! I’ll never be able to remain the topper at this rate.”

By now, the entire class was laughing at me.

I looked at them with complete seriousness and said:

“What do you fools know about the value of 20 marks?

You can afford to laugh
I have a reputation to maintain"

Apparently, academic desperation was my comedy career before I even knew I was a comedian.

Thanks for reading 🙏

I’m the kind of guy who doesn’t randomly slide into girls’ DMs on Jamaa.

And then there are some guys who, despite being guys themselves, don’t even think twice before messaging another guy. 😂

Well… being a poet does come with the ability to roast people too.
I could say more.

But never mind… let’s spare you the poetry. 😌😂
