If you are a poet and you didn't even know it
The poet says that when he writes to his beloved, he is truly writing to his own soul because they are so deeply united that no letter or word can separate them. Any message that comes from the beloved is already his own answer, since their souls are one.
And usual translation kills poetry
Al Halaj
We romanticize the stars, but forget the dark is what made them visible.

POEM V - Blossom
The sun is bright and brilliant
They say not to dive in
But I never listen
I do as my heart pleases
A deer watches from afar
Pondering what this silly woman is doing
Without the cities and noise
Wouldn't this be where I actually belong?
I wander through the deep stream
With jasmine blossoms in my hair
I hear your song and swim towards it
A melody only I can hear
The birds titter above
The sweet, lucid notes are entrancing
You smile, the water glistening on your hair
Oh! I can finally embrace you.

Most people think heartbreak comes from losing someone.
Psychology suggests something different.
We suffer because reality destroys the future we imagined with them.
As Ghalib wrote:
“Ye na thi hamari qismat ke visaal-e-yaar hota,
Agar aur jeete rehte yahi intezaar hota.”
Sometimes we don’t grieve a person.
We grieve a possibility.
The paradox of modern dating is simple.
People have more options than ever before,
yet feel more replaceable than ever before.
Choice increased.
Connection didn’t.
As Ahmad Faraz wrote:
“Ab ke hum bichhde to shayad kabhi khwabon mein milein,
Jis tarah sookhe hue phool kitaabon mein milein.”
When people become options,
they stop becoming priorities.
