What kind of thinking is this? Saying, “I don’t want to live with your family; I need privacy.”

I completely understand the need for privacy after marriage, and I’m willing to provide that. My partner can have a separate room, her own personal space, and all the privacy she needs.

But does privacy mean I have to abandon the family I grew up with?

These are the people I’ve shared my childhood, struggles, happiness, and difficult times with. They are my brothers and my family—not strangers who suddenly became part of my life.

I can give my partner a separate room. I can give her personal space. But I cannot simply separate myself from my family just because I’m getting married.

Marriage should be about finding a balance—not forcing someone to choose between their partner and the family they grew up with.

And the most surprising part is that she is educated. How can someone be educated and still not understand the difference between having privacy and completely separating a husband from his family?

May Allah protect all of us from relationships that force us to choose between our partner and the family who has always stood by us. 🤲
