As you guys are well aware, due to the gaslighting culture going to extremes even with family, muslim people joking about religion has become very common. All the muslim scholars seemed to agree that joking about God or the Prophet is a no no. Due to a clear verse in surat at tawbah. This seems to be position of all four famous fiqh schools of Islam. They differed on the Muzz dilemma...joking about marriage. My madhab, the Hanbali school of thought and also a school known for zuhd (tasawwuf), said any jokes about marriage are binding (legally). Meaning if two people joked about getting married and had the conditions of a contract agreed upon (two witnesses, ijaab qabool, announced publicly), even jokingly, their marriage would be valid. With financial jokes, the Hanbali madhab was more relaxed...meaning non binding. God knows best.
