You will find many people who claim to love you, but choose someone whose eyes become teary at the mere thought of losing you.

Please, let us be kind to every living soul. Animals may not have a voice to ask for help, but they feel hunger, pain, fear, and love just as we do. So, whenever you give to those in need, please consider setting aside a small portion of your donations for these innocent lives as well.

Even the smallest act of kindness can mean the world to a helpless animal. Let our compassion extend beyond humanity—to every life that depends on our mercy, care, and kindness. ❤️🐾

Assalamu alaikum everyone.

While eating my cereal this Jummah morning and I came across an undisclosed postal charity poster asking to make donations to an amazing cause in the form of monthly direct debit or lump sum payments or ad-hoc donations for a specific project or endeavour.

So my issue is not the charity, its mission or the actual frontline work that takes place. Alhumdulillah I’m actually inspired and moved by the levels of selflessness some of our fellow brothers and sisters exhibit. The don’t even question the sometimes dubious administration processes of charities and their facilitators.

This is about optics:
The ugly truth in the room of how the charity sector projects a racist, Eurocentric agenda globally and how it shapes societal attitudes to peoples and places of a far off origin and how the realities on the ground in places actually differs from what is professionally printed on glossy posters, flyers or consumed via various digital shock advertising mediums.

Almost all Muslim charities depict a person of need and poverty, as an African person, usually a child and usually a female. Whilst I understand that there is a considerable level of poverty in certain parts of the world such as Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia, pockets of the Middle East etc but why must they always depict a black individual as the first media asset the public lays eyes on.

There are places in South Asia and Africa which now, due to rise of global internet access, digital learning, globalisation and trade agreements with rising powers - offer a better quality of life socially and in some cases economically than the average household in the UK.

Take the UK for example, there is a lot of poverty here and many Muslim and non-Muslim brothers and sisters are in need of our help here, hidden in plain sight in our towns and cities and yet so many of them focus on global programmes and depict racial stereotypes which in fact are not representative of reality but of a racist Eurocentric white saviour complex narrative which was created to indoctrinate the public’s perception of people’s of a certain origin. Vis-a-vis, The darker your skin pigment, the more needy you are and the more elaborate the fundraising campaign.

I think our brothers and sisters in the charity sector should do more to help poverty in this country as an example of how Muslims and Islam can have a much wider impact in this country apart from Thobes and Shawarmas. No disrespect intended to anyone. I’m just making a very critical observation here.

What are your thoughts? Am I over thinking it or does anyone else see this concerning pattern of charity marketing?
