Hello everyone.......anyone here other than me hmmmmm.......I am waiting
We need to talk about how humiliating <CUSTOM_BOLD>and normalized</CUSTOM_BOLD> dekhna-dikhana process is for girls in India.
The mother of a girl my mother recently went to see asked her daughter to show my mother an insignificant burn mark on her foot which would have made no difference to our decision. But the fact that they were so like apologetic about that mark got me thinking, and I think that mentality stems from the same culture of putting a girl under unreasonable scrutiny.
The onus is on us men to school our family women who go to see the girl on what not to do. Our mothers come from a generation where this humiliation ritual was so normalized that they accepted it as a norm [and even necessity].
We don't have to continue this demeaning tradition. As a Muslim, the woman you're considering for nikah is a Muslima. That fact alone is enough for you to honor more than the usual.
