I have been looking specifically at Indonesian ladies profiles for quite a while now because I intend to visit there. My question/comment applies also to most of S.E.Asia.
The obsession with white skin and heavy heavy makeup is so disappointing.
There is a disproportionately large percentage of profiles where women completely paint their faces with makeup or cannot post a single photo without heavy filters.
I don’t understand. Where does all this insecurity with your brown skin come from ?
It is clearly a cultural thing and I’m sure there is some impact from colonialism and the feeling that you are less because your skin is brown.
The only response I’ve heard from 10+ conversations where I respectfully challenged the practice was
“ I do it for myself to feel comfortable”
Can someone give me another reason ?
Why would you choose to mis-represent yourself to such an extent when at some point the mask will have to come off.
