Married women hold the family finances, assets, and manage the household finances across many Southeast Asian and East Asian cultures. (Of course, there are exceptions.)
The paycheck goes directly to the woman in the family (the wife). She manages the monthly, quarterly, and yearly budgets. She provides monthly allowances to her husband and children, while building and growing the family’s wealth and assets, and making the core decisions on investments and liabilities.
This is largely the structure within my culture, my immediate family, and my extended family.
When I travelled to Japan and lived briefly in different parts of Southeast Asia, I realised many women had the same family setup as the one in my culture. I later learnt that this financial structure is also common in many Chinese families.
I found that fascinating.
