So I dragged myself out of bed to watch The Odyssey and honestly… i’m a little disappointed.

How do you tell a mythological story and leave out so much of the mythology? Anyone who doesn’t already know the original story would probably be completely lost.

The direction was impressive, but at some point, you have to prioritise telling the actual story. Adaptation is one thing, but stripping away the very essence that makes a myth a myth feels like a missed opportunity.

Powerful closing from Sami Hamdi

This is what it sounds like when intellectual, emotional, and spiritual intelligence are aligned.

One line that really stayed with me:

“I’m not happy. I’m content.”

He’s not denying the pain, the injustice, or the heartbreak. He’s making a distinction between his feelings toward this dunya and his trust in Allah’s decree.

”I’m content because Allah is in control.“

That single distinction changes the entire perspective.

He grieves the state of the world, yet his heart remains grounded because he knows that ultimate justice belongs to Allah.

That’s a level of emotional and spiritual maturity that speaks differently.

Went with mum to watch The Odyssey.
Overall 6/10 film.
I feel they could have done WAY MORE on the actual adventure aspect of the film. It felt too much storytelling rather than story showing.
But as always Christopher Nolan can execute the story telling very well.
And that bow string pluck at the closing sequence is the most epic scene I have scene in a film for a WHILE. Totally grips you with emotion.
Could have been 7/10 + if they added more mythical monsters and spice. For a film running for nearly 3 hours (I think?) they certainly were capable enough to do this so weren’t very sure why they didn’t.
Good film.
