Anyone else experience born Muslims being weird about reverts? Like a bird in a cage or rare wild life? lol
As Salaam alaikum my revert sisters. I am looking for your opinion pls. I have met a non Muslim woman who is open to Islam but has her reservations in reverting. What help you in reverting back to Islam or key information that made you decide? She has an open mind and works with many Muslim colleagues so she is around the "culture" of Islam.. help?
In the Quran and broader Islamic tradition, intimacy outside marriage is generally prohibited because marriage is viewed as the proper framework for sexual relationships, family life, and mutual responsibilities. Different Muslim scholars emphasize different aspects, but common reasons include:
The Quran presents marriage as a stable bond that establishes rights and responsibilities between partners and toward any children who may result from the relationship.
“And among His signs is that He created for you from yourselves mates that you may find tranquility in them; and He placed between you affection and mercy.”
Marriage creates a public, recognized commitment. In Islamic ethics, sexual intimacy is linked to duties such as financial support, fidelity, inheritance rights, and care for children.
Classical Islamic law places significant importance on clear family relationships and legal parentage, which affect inheritance, guardianship, and family obligations.
The Quran repeatedly encourages believers to exercise self-restraint and avoid situations that may lead to conduct it considers immoral.
“And do not approach unlawful sexual intercourse. Indeed, it is ever an immorality and is evil as a way.
Many Islamic scholars argue that restricting intimacy to marriage helps reduce emotional, social, and familial harms that can arise from casual or unstable relationships. This is an ethical rationale rather than a scientific claim, and people from different cultures and belief systems may disagree about its effectiveness.
For believers, the most fundamental reason is that God has prescribed marriage as the lawful context for sexual relations. In Islamic theology, moral rules are ultimately grounded in God’s guidance.
Surah Al-Isra (17:32)
“And do not approach unlawful sexual intercourse. Indeed, it is ever an immorality and is evil as a way.”
— Quran
Surah Al-Mu’minun (23:5–7)
“And they who guard their private parts, except from their spouses … for then they are free from blame. But whoever seeks beyond that, then those are the transgressors.”
Surah An-Nur (24:2)
This verse prescribes a punishment for zina (commonly understood in Islamic tradition as unlawful sexual intercourse).
Surah Al-Furqan (25:68)
Describing the qualities of righteous believers:
“And those who do not invoke with Allah another deity or kill the soul … and do not commit unlawful sexual intercourse.”
Surah An-Nisa (4:24–25)
These verses discuss lawful marriage and repeatedly refer to seeking spouses “in marriage, not in unlawful sexual relations.”
“…seeking them in marriage, not in unlawful sexual intercourse…”
